Compare The Meerkats
On Meerkats commercials I was responsible for the lighting, rendering and precomp for my allocated shots. Softimage was the 3D package used and rendering used MentalRay and Arnold on different commercials. Compositing was done in NUKE.

Charmin Bears commercials are animated in Softimage, rendered also in Softimage using VRay. Vray renderer seems to give the best balance of fur render times. Nuke is used for comping. They are funny commercials and they always seem to come out vibrate and upbeat.

EE take on Fenton the dog that took the internet by storm. Softimage once again for lighting and rendering. Also precomp on CG elements. MentalRay was the renderer.
Audi Le Mans
This is a stereoscopic job at Passion Pictures for Audis race at Le Mans. Its graphic approach was a bit harder that one would have thought as all the pencil marks, stokes and effects had to be spot on. Though not much lighting here, I setup the below scenes, added and altered the already created effects. Then took the shots into Nuke to comp the renders in stereo and adjusted the convergence point before giving it to edit. It may look like a simple piece but in stereoscopic it is very impressive.

This Bskyb commercial was for the Australian cricket over the Christmas period hence the snow. Used Softimages hair for the fur on the kangaroo (wallaby). Did all the lighting, rendering, modelling and shaded of the snow dome. Also reshaded some of the snowmen and props. All in all it’s a nice piece with good animation having the look and feel that captured the Christmas Australian cricket spirit.
Cyber Noodle Web Ident
This was a fun project to work on. It is a web ident for Gorillaz’s album “Plastic Beach” which was done at Passion Pictures. I was responsible for the lighting, rendering and liasing with the director to set the mood of the piece. I think the final look complements the Gorillaz theme.

Here is another one of my favourite projects I was involved in. At Glassworks I integrated several element into the scene. The lighting and rendering of the fish in the book at the beginning, polaroids with the fish swimming scene, background book element as she walks down the stairs and the re-render of the roses down the stair with the wedding dress.
Super Soap Sudz
A short mock commercial showcasing PureMotion’s work. Softimage, RedShift renderer, Autodesk Composite, Photoshop, AfterEffects and Premiere where used.

Testing intergration pipeline. The pot and the plant is the only CG element in the shot.
I designed, modelled, shaded and textured this character a while ago and he has become my test bed for rendering technology. He has been through Mental Ray, Brazil and now Octane Render. 1st is RedShift, 2nd is MentalRay and 3rd is Octane renderer. He will be rigged and animated at a later time to test these and other renders. He is so cute!
This is render test of a character using RedShift. The SSS, hair and texture size where all run of the mill sizes to see if it will fit in RedShift GPU memory. And it did.
Breakdown will follow soon.
I am a Lighting Artist/TD/Generalist and animator working in London with 12 years experience in TV, commercials and games. Trained as a character animator I landed a job working on Gerry Anderson’s New Captain Scarlet where I progressed to different roles such as lighting team lead, team TD and CG director. With the changes to my roles and improved skills in modelling, shading, texturing, lighting, rendering and compositing, lighting became my 2nd love and has been my main profession for the last 10years. I have been lucky to have worked in some great places such as Sony, EA, Passion Pictures, The Mill and Glassworks where I have helped create great work and learnt at lot from the fantastic artists this industry has to offer
